On June 5th, Ghana joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Environment Day 2025, with the spotlight on one of the most pressing issues of our time, plastic pollution. This year’s celebration in Accra was not only about awareness but action, as the government officially launched the “One Child, One Tree” initiative.

This powerful campaign, part of the broader “Tree for Life Restoration” programme, aims to plant over 30 million trees across the country by the end of July 2025. With students at the center of this movement, the campaign connects environmental restoration with youth engagement, empowering the next generation to take tangible steps in healing the planet.

The event was graced by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana, along with representatives from the UNDP, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), and the Environmental Protection Agency. The message was clear: environmental protection must start now, and it must start with all of us.

At Soko Bags, we are proud to be part of this national journey toward sustainability. For the campaign, we created custom reusable bags made from upcycled clothing, supporting the movement’s eco-conscious spirit and circular economy goals. These bags were distributed to volunteers and partners during the tree-planting events, reinforcing the message that even small shifts in our everyday habits, like choosing reusable over plastic, can lead to major environmental impact.

As a brand rooted in sustainability and community, Soko Bags is committed to supporting local initiatives that align with our values, reducing waste, promoting conscious consumption, and advocating for a greener Ghana.

We’re excited to see trees take root across the country, and just as excited to see eco-friendly habits grow in the hearts of our youth.
